Inpainting and outpainting

Editing part of an image by regenerating a selected region, or extending an image beyond its original borders.

Definition

Inpainting regenerates a masked area to remove, replace, or add elements while matching the surroundings; outpainting extends the canvas with new content that continues the scene. Both appear in image editors and generators as generative fill or expand features, and video tools are adding similar region-based edits.
