Watermarking and content credentials

Techniques that embed signals or attach metadata to AI-generated media so its origin can be verified.

Definition

Invisible watermarks are embedded into images, audio, or text at generation time; content credentials attach signed provenance metadata describing how a file was created and edited. Major vendors are adopting both, though watermarks can be stripped and credentials can be removed, so they support rather than guarantee verification.

Why it matters when choosing a tool

Provenance signals help platforms and audiences trust media and help brands document the origin of assets they publish.
